What does training to be a foster carer involve?
The assessment and training process will include a formal assessment by a social worker. They will meet with you and your family to learn more about you and your reasons for fostering. There will also be mandatory training called “Skills to Foster”. This runs for three days and usually takes place over a weekend. During this training you will reflect on the challenges of fostering and ask any questions you may have. There will also be other training courses you need to take, including First Aid, Safeguarding, Child Development Theories and Trauma Awareness.
